Press Release: Businessman Greg Reed Kicks Off Campaign for Alabama Senate

(JASPER, AL) - Jasper businessman Greg Reed today formally announced his candidacy for the Alabama Senate, District 5, in the June 2010 Republican Primary. In campaign stops in Tuscaloosa, Jasper, Arley and Pleasant Grove, Mr. Reed talked about why he is seeking the Senate seat that is comprised of all of Walker and parts of Tuscaloosa, Winston and Jefferson Counties.

“I seek this office because we need people to enter public service at the state level whose only agenda is to serve the people who elect them, who will be good stewards of taxpayer dollars and who are dedicated to making Alabama a better place to live, work and raise a family,” Mr. Reed said.

Mr. Reed said he will focus on three issues as the cornerstone of his campaign:  Bringing new jobs that will rev the engines of prosperity; gearing public education toward real-world employment opportunities for graduates; passing meaningful ethics reform to bring more accountability and transparency to state government.

He also said he was running to end “politics as usual” in Montgomery. “With your help and your vote, we will send new leadership to the State Capitol to represent you the people, not the powerful special interests who have dominated the political agenda for far too long,” Mr. Reed stated.

Greg Reed has worked in the medical equipment industry since 1991. He has been for the past six years Vice President of Preferred Medical Systems. Preferred Medical is an exclusive representative of diagnostic medical ultrasound systems in six states for General Electric Healthcare.

Greg and his wife, the former Mitsy Harbison, are natives of Cordova, Alabama. They have been married for 21 years and have three sons. Their sons Andrew and James are 15 year old twins, and John Michael is 13 years old. The Reed boys attend Jasper City Schools in the 9th and 7th grades.
